 The Seattle Jaycees have four primary programming areas (Area's of Opportunity) with Membership included in all of them:
COMMMUNITY
The Community Development (CD) programming area is responsible for projects and events that impact the local community. CD projects are designed to promote conservation, governmental involvement, improve the quality of human life, and provide funding and manpower to assist other non-profit organizations with similar objectives.
Past CD projects include the quarterly Food Lifeline project, the annual Police, Firefighter, EMT Appreciation (PFEA) Night, Habitat for Humanity, Adopt a Family, Walk to D'feet ALS, and the annual Humane Society Tuxes & Tails Auction. Through the Community Development area, the Seattle Jaycees also partner with the Greater Seattle Chamber of Commerce and other local community service organizations.
INDIVIDUAL
The Individual Development (ID) programming area is responsible for projects and events that provide opportunities for personal, professional, and spiritual growth with the emphasis on building leadership, communication, and management skills.
Past ID projects include seminars, speakers, and events on topics such as Public Speaking, Personal Financial Planning, Time & Stress Management, Resume Writing, Governmental Awareness, and Cultural Sensitivity.
BUSINESS (aka MANAGEMENT DEVELOPMENT)
The Business Development (aka Management, MD) programming area is responsible for the hands-on management of the chapter, including chapter strategic and tactical planning, finances, facilities, personnel, fundraising, communications, and public relations.
INTERNATIONAL
The International Area of Opportunity provides an opportunity for individual members to contribute to the development of goodwill, understanding, and cooperation among all peoples.
MEMBERSHIP
The Membership programming area is responsible for the management of chapter growth and membership retention.
Past Membership projects include New Member Orientations, the Mid-Month Mix & Mingle Membership Meeting (M6), the annual Summer Boat Cruise, Apple Cup and Super Bowl parties, and organized trips to various cultural and social events such as the Winthrop Blues Festival and the Leavenworth Christmas Tree Lighting Festival.
As stated by the United States Junior Chamber, the purpose of the local chapter is to become a force for good in the community, determining community needs and providing solutions by planning and facilitating community service projects. In the act of serving, members receive hands-on experience, which translates to the enhancement of personal growth and the development of valuable leadership skills. This is the total Junior Chamber Concept.
